Neat topic - and I note that you have scooped up some of the best examples of rocks in landscapes in your intro 😁 I love the view in the second image with all the golds of fall present.

Alan, you’ve contributed some beautiful “rocky” landscapes. I especially love the Bisti and Bryce images. And of course the Harris Beach captures are quite colorful—very nice! The aerial capture of the S. Boardman Scenic Corridor is quite nice as well—and my favorite! Thank you for sharing!

Perfect! Wonderful variety and beautiful captures Jeffrey! (I liked your intro comment too!) Your Death Valley image, I would think a memorable capture—color, composition, and inclement weather! Very nice! I also love the Alabama Hills image for the light striking the “jagged” mountains and the foreground rounded rocks. Again—very nice! I liked the Glen Canyon rocky hole—filled with rocks! 😊 The very colorful Zion red rock with a scattering of yellow leaves bisected by the stream of water—again a well seen capture! The Colorado River slow speed capture contrasting with the foreground of sharp angled rocks works well. Thank you for sharing each of these today.

A few from my archive:

Morning Light at Cedar Breaks

Long Lake Outlet at the Gateway to Indian Peaks Wilderness Area
Larry, beautiful images you’ve shared today and thank you for doing so! The Sprague Lake layered composition is well captured and a favorite. There’s something about the Cedar Breaks I really like—the morning light illuminating and creating shadows across the ridges is beautiful. Nice! The Long Lake Outlet is my favorite—blue water, green trees and mountains beyond captured in an interesting composition!

From Monday and Tuesday this week and a short visit to the Rhins of Galloway in the SW of Scotland. Little visited by photographers who are enticed by the charms of either the English Lake District or more likely the Scottish Highlands starting a 2 hr drive North. Dunskey Castle was built in the 16thC and is perched on the edge of the rocky cliffs. Ken

On Tuesday the weather was better with sunny intervals and Ireland could be seen 20 miles away.

I love the pumice cave capture you shared—my favorite! Excellent composition idea shooting from within the cave towards the light—very nice. It definitely reveals the rocky formation too! I also find the Red Rock Canyon State Park to be well named and an excellent portrayal with your image. Nice. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful sea coast images Ken! And with a “rocky” castle added to the rocky shoreline! Perhaps my favorite is the third image, it’s difficult to choose among all these great captures. Not to slight the B&W second image—another favorite too! Thank you for sharing these perfect coastal contributions!
