Tick time

It has warmed up in the last week so lots of insects and birds are on the move. I was on the ground and walking in grass and brush along the river in our city. I felt something on my head and thought oh I bet that is a tick. Sure enough, so when I got home I did a tick check and found two more. The veterinary school in Saskatoon has developed an app whereby they will id the tick by pictures you send in. This one is most likely Dermacentor variabilis or American dog tick and it does not transmit Lyme disease. I put the tick in the freezer for about 10 min. to kill it for photography.
The white marks are from a ruler (in mm.)

Thankfully these guys aren't all that common in my area although I have plucked one off my neck in eastern Oregon. Nice you had access to a source for getting an ID.

I guess I can tick this one off my list to photograph. :)
