I brought the S1RII with me on my recent trip to Croatia and Slovenia as my only camera body. I have been enjoying the camera and wanted to see how I liked it for a long trip. I also wanted to see how well it worked for shooting video, since that is a strength of Panasonic's cameras. In only brought 3 lenses with me, all from Panasonic: The 28-200 f/4-7.1, the 16-35 f/4, and the 18 f/1.8. My hope was to leave the 28-200 on the camera all the time while walking around. I brought the 16-35 in case I needed a wider lens for things like the waterfalls in Plitvice or some city shots, I brought the 18mm for night shots as well as if I decided I needed a faster lens for interiors.
Summary: The Panasonic LUMIX S1RII easily handled everything that I threw at it on this trip. I was able to use the 28-200 lens (which is wonderfully small and light for that zoom range) for almost every shot on this trip, due in part to the excellent high-ISO performance of the camera. My video was a little shakier than I had hoped, but that just shows how clumsily I move. I had a tendency to under-expose my images to keep the shutter speeds relatively fast and the ISO relatively low. I've had plenty of latitude in processing to boost the exposures, often to +1, with no observable loss of image quality.
Here's a high-ISO example... These are from the Church of St. George in Piran. The first image is at ISO 10000 as I wanted to see how well the camera performed at that level. The second image is at ISO 4000.
1) ISO 10000
2) ISO 4000
I'll use this thread to share additional information and answer questions.
