Vermilion Sunrise

I've had someone I can't refuse toss the black and white challenge my way. So I decided to process seven images I took in 2017 that I haven't shared before, and make that my B&W story for the year. Here is the first, from a sunrise in Banff at 3rd Vermilion Lake taken in January 2017.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Looks rather chilly. Seems a bit on the dark side for the mid tone. I keep wishing I could see more of the details in the mountains.

I won't participate in any of the challenges myself, but I am glad you did because that means we should be getting some really cool B&W work here in the B&W forum for the next week!

I had a similar thought to Alan's, but it could that's just an effect of the steam rising from the water?

I think it's a combination of the mist and the fact that the mountains are somewhat backlit.

I really like the soft contrast here, as you said aided by the rising mist and dawn light. Nicely done!

Nice scene, reflections and b/w treatment. It certainly conveys the cold, somewhat bleak setting.
