This.... is not going to be easy to choose. Even with 3 votes... This is like the best of the best.

I think I will have to ponder these for a bit.

This is a tough choice. Frankly, I don't think art should be competitive, though I do participate in some of that here to further my social skills and try to fit in. Yeah, I'm not like other people. Each one here excels in it's own category. I vote for ALL of them!

I totally get that - for me it is just for fun. I've observed that any art competition is fairly subjective and nobody should be too wrapped up in the results.

OK, cast my 3 votes. Hard to figure criteria, so I eventually just picked the 3 images I liked the best, regardless of whether I thought they represented the designated 'recipe' classification particularly well or not. Of course, that is hard to judge without having seen the other images that were entered for that particular recipe. In any case, a great set of 9 images to choose from - I am glad I had more than one vote this time!

Ha ha! Yeah, I needed 9 votes here myself...

Regardless of who wins from this vote. I think the exercise of voting is probably something the voters will benefit from the most. At least for me it's causing me to have to stop and think why I am choosing one photo over another. And I think as photographers, that is a great exercise that can cause us to grow ourselves. Was it the lines? Was it the lighting? Was it the lay of the land? I spent quite a bit of time thinking and pondering before I finally voted this morning.

To me, if you have a photo entered into this, don't feel bad if in the end you don't win. Be sure to feel good that you were part of a process where us voters got to grow a bit, and hopefully learn a few more things that we can then apply to our own photography. :)

I've noticed that in a lot of themed contests, the winner is often the most striking image - regardless of how well it actually fits the theme.

That's one thing that makes this vote interesting for the voters. As you said, do you vote for the image that best exemplified it's ingredient (one reason why I included that info)? Or do you vote for what you believe is the best image? No wrong answer.

Actually these choices are already the result of being the best in their respective class (as determined by the previous years contests). So, with no current criteria to maintain in this vote, it becomes simply what a person likes the best. For me, it's all about which images evoke an emotional response from the viewer. When that happens to you, you know it in 2 or 3 seconds.

IMHO...

The contests here are enjoyable, and I've participated in a few of them as time permits. I think what's missing though is the critique and "why" at the voting. Rarely have I seen comments from the voters explaining what about an image drew them to vote one way or another. As photogaphers I would expect that all of us would embrace that feedback as it's critical to our artistic growth.

Images up here today are all excellent, they area all winners already so I voted for the three that grabbed me the most. Warm vivid landscapes (1,9) and subject matter (3) are what elicited the most emotional response from me and that's how I voted.

You definitely worked faster then me Jeffrey! :)

I do agree that it really comes down to which ones we like the most. Though it's interesting to hear the criteria everyone is using to choose their favorite 3. And there is no right or wrong method. I initially started out in my choosing process closer to what Mike was thinking, but in the end I choose based on what you described, simply what stood out to the me the most. My problem ended up being there was 5 I really wanted to vote for, so to choose which 2 I couldn't vote for became hard.

Difficult vote for sure. Interesting that there were no repeat winners - 9 different people won the recipes.
