Walker Pass Treat

Just got home from my trip out west. For the most part didn't have great success with pictures.....smoke from the Southland fires in CA was spread all over, from Morro Bay, Bakersfield and the southern San Joaquin Valley, even saw evidence of it as far north as Mammoth Lakes in the Owen's Valley!
Anyway, will post pics, and catch up on you all's photos, over the coming days and weeks.
For now one of the first, on my way into Bakersfield to visit Mom, I took a roundabout way over Walker Pass via Hwy 178, a cute little scene near the small town of Onyx. The cottonwood (?) was beautifully back lit against the shaded rocky hill beyond.
Feel free to c&c.

Looks like a few hints of fall are still around too. I like the isolated and backlit tree tree here.

Unfortunate you got stuck with so much smoke - that can really clobber your fun meter when your goal is to shoot in wide open spaces. I have been wondering where to head for a photo road trip in January and your report now has me leaning towards the Olympic Peninsula and/or the Oregon coast.

Yep, you really spotted a beauty here Barry. That hill side in shadow sure makes that tree stand out.

Although, you have now messed up my title for one of my next posts! 2 weeks ago I shot a Cottonwood up there in the Alabama Hills that was backlit with fall colors and I was going to title it "The Last Tree of Fall". But now if you have shot another tree 2 weeks later that still has fall colors on it, that would blow my title up in my face.... sigh....
