Eric couldn't do this today, so I am filling in. Eric has taken me to many of his favorite haunts in AZ and so I am going to post birds from one of his absolute favorites: The Pond at Elephant Head, which gets its name from a rock shaped like that animal in the nearby mountains. Please pile on.

Thanks for these great shots Douglas. It must be a great birding spot.
My contributions for today are two shots from this week. I was walking along the river that runs through Saskatoon and noticed out of the corner of my eye a flash that I was pretty sure must be a Merlin. It disappeared and I kept walking. About a minute later I came upon it sitting on a branch really close to me. I slowed down and gently pointed my camera towards the bird. I think it had just eaten as it had blood on its face so maybe was content to stay put. I watched it for about 10 minutes in complete awe of nature.
My friend Lynn the falconer thinks it is likely a mature female based on colouring.
The other bird is a Common Goldeneye that frequent the open water on the river. They will be here for a few more weeks before they head out to breeding grounds.

It is always amazing to me to see birds so casually sitting on these spiky plants. You have captured them really well.

Beautiful images as usual, Trent. You should abandon that cold weather you're getting and come to Arizona for some great shooting in Eric's yard. I have gotten as many as twenty-three different species in one morning.

It is certainly on my bucket list.. I have a trip to Scotland in May so I'm saving up for that. Maybe next fall/winter. It would be a great experience for sure.

All of these are great, I really need to stop by and go out to that pond with you and Eric.
