Winged Wednesday 5.22.2024

The letters U, X, and Z are difficult letters for winged critters and things. so for today's Winged Wednesday we're doing all three "U, X, and Z." So, add your images of anything with wings that start with the letter "U, X, and Z" in its name, species, or taxon. Of course, anything with wings is welcome regardless of the letter. Next week the letter "V"

The first three photos are the letter "U." Photos 4 and 5 are the letter "X." And photos 6, 7, and 8 are the letter "Z."

The Common Murre's scientific name is Uria aalge.. The other bird is an Atlantic Puffin

The Sabine's gull's scientific name is Xema sabini

The Yellow-headed blackbird's name is Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus

Zone-tailed hawk

New Zealand falcon

White-crowned sparrow's scientific name is Zonotrichia leucophrys

Wow Eric. You really outdid yourself and did these letters proud. I am ignorant of the scientific names so missed out on some birds in this category.
I took a crazy turn and used some examples that are beyond believable.
So here goes.

A friend of mine made this Urn and decorated it with a bronze casting of a bird (I'm calling it an Urn Bird).
Leon is truly a remarkable turner, silversmith, bronze maker and creator.

A couple of Yellowlegs making an X.

If you squint and use your imagination you can see the Z these geese are making.

I was thinking I had nothing for this letter group until I went through Eric's collection for today and he mentioned Yellow Headed Blackbirds as Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus. I did have an elderly image of one of those from the first weekend I owned a Canon 5D back in 2008
