Winged Wednesday 5/13/2020

Hopefully everyone had happy healthy week. I had a bad case of ADR, but I'm fully recovered. (ADR-Ain't doing right). Today's winged Wednesday is the Black-headed Grosbeak. Black-headed grosbeaks are chunky birds with a thick bill, thick neck and short tail. They forage for seeds and insects in dense foliage. They are shy birds but also birds that love sunflower seeds. I place perches above small platform feeders, waited in my blind and clicked away when the come in to eat. The first two photos are the male with a black head, black and white wings and a rich yellow orange chest. The third photo is the female with a warm buffy and streaked chest and masked face. Immature Black-headed Grosbeak are very similar in appearance to the female.

the smooth background is the result a telephoto lens and great distance between the bird and the background

Excellent photos, Alan. Eye-level perspective is the goal of most bird photographers. I'll try to post some duck photos in a future Winged Wednesday to show and talk about this.

Well its not a family of Owls but I sure have been having fun photographing all the little babies this spring. "Stay at Home order" was well good for me!! Ha it opened my eyes to so much more. and even though I have started going back to work this week I learned a lot in a month and a half. I Like working from the comfort of my home and not have to drive home. I love photographing wildlife just as much as my Macro and Landscape photography.
