Saturday and Sunday Stars!

Do you have any night photos of the stars? Of the Milky Way? Please post them in this thread.

If this hits off well, this may turn into a monthly Feature we do in conjunction with our Waterfall Wednesdays.

Here is mine to start it off. One from Joshua Tree from a few years ago. I mainly shoot static stars, but once in a while for better or worse  I play with star trails.

Thanks for starting this, a great idea. Couple great images to kick it off. Here is one I took in Zion. I was set up to catch the full moon on the Watchman. Standing on the bridge after midnight, but the moon never reached the Watchman, but when I turned around I saw this facing north.

Great idea for a thread. And some nice images so far. Here is my contribution. Mt Rainier is one of my favorite places to shoot. This one from a few months ago. There was a little more than a quarter moon. The first image is after the moonset. The second is a blend of foreground and the mountain when the moon was up and the sky a little after the moonset.

My first attempt was Rainier but I didn't know what I was doing. This is what I was hoping for.

Hey Jameel, both of these are really great! Mount Rainier is where I have taken some of my favorite star shots.

Wow Todd, these are super amazing! Love that detail in these. Did you use a star tracking device and a regular long lens?
Thanks Jim,
I did use the AstroTrac for a six minute exposure and the Sigma 135mm f/1.8 lens at f/2.5 for these. On the North American / Veil nebula shot, I used my Nikon 105mm f/1.4 @ f/1.4 for six minutes. So far the Sigma 135mm is an awesome lens to shoot with, it does so well on the night sky. These were done with my D810

Love the images and the idea. I haven't done much star photography, but I'm interested in doing more.

I have just a couple:

One of star trails over an old Juniper at Green River Overlook (lit by the remnants of our campfire)

A recent attempt this Fall of the Milky Way over Heart Lake, Adirondacks

And pre-sunrise stars at Monument Valley (winter)

Here is one you all will like... I used my sky safari pro app on my iPhone while at a star party and the app notified me that the ISS was passing over and it did, right through Orion’s Belt. I already had my camera on my AstroTrac with my Zeiss Apo 135mm f/2 and I started a two minute exposure ahead of the ISS and captured it as it passed... a cool moment for me. Hope you like it also.
