Side Canyon of Upper Antelope Canyon, AZ

In the early days of the discovery of Antelope Canyon you could go to the LeChee Chapter House 5 miles south of Page and get a permit to photograph upper antelope canyon. During the winter when this image was taken in 2003, there is usually no one else around. While wandering around I found this small side drainage with frozen water and decided to make an image. I especially liked the lines in the Navajo Sandstone and the reflection of the sky on the frozen water.

Wow - that is a seriously unique capture and a one-of-a-kind experience. I love this shot.

Is there any mechanism (obviously $$$) that would allow access like this anymore?

Thanks for your kind words, Alan. I am sure one of the side businesses would be happy to take you there for a fee. Rattlesnake Canyon is right nearby.

Magnifique...

Nice, peaceful scene. Quite a contrast to what the main canyon must be like these days!
I am pretty sure you could talk to one of the non-antelope canyon guides to take you there and there still wouldn't be crowds because no one knows about this area. It is right near Rattlesnake Canyon which is a tributary to Antelope Canyon.

This is so cool Doug! Love those lines. It looks like by the reflection that you had some nice sunset/sunrise colors going on in the sky as well.

What a special spot you found!

I hope you have more from that trip you can share.
