For today's Winged Wednesday, I'll contribute photographs of the three species of phalaropes (slender-necked shorebirds) "Phalaropes reverse the usual sex roles in birds: Females are larger and more colorful than males; females take the lead in courtship, and males are left to incubate the eggs and care for the young." Audubon Field Guide

The phalaropes take up 3 of the 5 spots I post so I'll add my best hummer photo of the week and the Desert Cardinal to round out the 5.

I went out onto the cliffs of North Eastern Scotland at the weekend hoping for a sight of Puffins. Unfortunately they have all departed for their winter locations out in the North Atlantic. However I spent several hours wandering along the cliffs in the very warm September sunshine. I did manage a few images of the Cormorants on a skerry just offshore. Ken

For today's Winged Wednesday I made a short video of Blue Jays cracking open peanuts. It is taken from my kitchen window and I was not able to get proper sound so the bird sounds in the video are from a source file.
I had no idea they were so adapt at eating peanuts! And that's amazing that they can eat the whole nut! You would think they would choke on it. Very nice video.
