Traveling along the I-25 from New Mexico to Colorado, I have found that there is very often some cool weather going on. In this case I saw some cool storms to the West so I exited the freeway and started driving some backroads to find a nice composition to go along with it. In this case I had found some old buildings to the one side, and a little further down the road this tree on the right side.
For me, the Lone Tree is almost a quest. It's very hard to find, perhaps not as the quest to find the Holy Grail, but it's hard none the less.

I understand you're wanting a dark sky against that bright tree, but I think you could make that biggest foreground cloud brighter and still make that point.
