Botswana Elephant Procession

I went on a Thom Hogan workshop to Botswana in 2013. At the end of the morning shoot in Moremi Game Reserve, our guide/driver suggested we stop at a spot and wait for an additional 30-45 minutes while the rest of the folks returned to the camp for lunch. He had anticipated that the elephants that were grazing would go for a noon drink at a nearby pond. We were just watching the elephants. About 20+ minutes later, one by one formed a line and started walking towards the pond. It was noon and so the lighting was harsh, but the scene was surreal. Thom was kinda upset that we were late for lunch, but the scene made my day.

That's so cool Murali! And what an interesting back story. It was worth being late for lunch I would say.

I sure do like how they are lined up, and for midday light, this looks really nice. Other then the sky, I don't think one could guess it was midday, the colors of the elephants are very rich.

Great reason to be late for lunch! Have you tried it in B&W? Maybe a crop to make it a horizontal to complement the line the elephants are making?

Ha. I was thinking of the same while I was posting it. Thanks for your suggestion. Will do a B&W conversion and see how it turns out.

Nice procession. In addition to the B&W suggestion from Monika, I'd also try losing the sky entirely.
