I sometime find large birds more difficult to photograph than the smaller ones. I think it's because I need to be further away from the subject when using 500mm and this brings atmospheric conditions into the equation, especially in hot climates.

Now that's interesting Kevin! I hadn't even thought about with the larger birds you needing to be further away and it bringing in atmospheric disturbance. Totally makes sense, but I had never thought about that.

I get to see Pelican's from time to time in SoCal. I like these 2 you captured as I don't think we have brown pelicans here. I think ours are all white?
