Northern Lights in Yosemite

This is from June 1st, this is my consolation prize. The big show was the night before, but I didn't hear of it. I was going to set up my cameras to capture the Milky Way, and I had plans to set 1 camera to the North so I could do Star trails later. But it was really cloudy after sunset, and since I had been awake for about 36 hours at this point after capturing the Milky Way the night before, I decided to just catch up on some sleep since it was so cloudy.

So you can imagine my dismay when I wake up in the morning and find people had captured some awesome Northern Lights in Yosemite. :( That made me pretty sad, and a week later, I am almost over the pain of missing that.

I did set up my cameras on this small dome that is located just before Glacier Point then later that night. My hope was that the Northern Lights might just show up again. And they did, not for too long, and not as intense as the night before. But they showed up and gave me some consolation.

In this image the Dome to the left is Sentinal Dome.

Nice consolation prize - the only reason it might not seem wonderful is because you knew there was another show you missed. I like this result.

Hard to say how functional you might have been the night before after being up for 36 hours straight

Thanks Alan, this one helps to take the sting away a bit.

The spot I found was pretty isolated, and with my previous scouting I had an idea already on camera placement. So my plan (until I saw all of the clouds) was to go set up my cameras and then just go to sleep for a while.

Thanks so much Oliver. This is in the same spot you saw earlier. I think it would make a good workshop location for you. Nobody else was stopping there, and there are compositions in every direction.
