i ended up in a fake old west town tourist trap on i-90. found a decent scene setup in the blacksmith's shop with some good side light coming from the entry.

Nice - the included elements in the shot don't really give away much about this being a contemporary scene. The well beaten saddle and shovel along with an even more well beaten anvil help make the mood of the scene feel like it has some serious antiquity. Now if you just added in some processing to emulate the look of a wet plate camera like the images @Joe Kayne creates you could push this out to another level yet.

What an awesome still life image Beth! Love it! The lighting is perfect, and this is perfect as a B&W, It has Black in it! I hate B&W's that end up actually just being Gray&Gray.
