Dream Lake

On Monday I hiked up to Dream and Emerald Lakes. I videoed the hike, so I have a 2 hour video coming. It was super windy, it looked like the sunset was a bust. Since it was gettting darker, I packed up my video gear and cameras and started hiking back before it got too dark. I walked about 200 feet down the trail turned around and saw the color busting through! So I turned back and ran back up the snowy trail onto the ice of Dream Lake to take some photos.

So this is one of them. I am a little over 10,000 feet here. It was a warmer day for the rockies, high 30's, but the wind as usual was really bad on the open lake. Probably gusting to about 40 mph.

The lake froze over with wind ripples in the ice? Speaks volumes about both the wind and the cold up there. Very nice colors and reflections on the ice.

Thanks Alan!

Yep, that's frozen ripples in the ice. It's not a lake you would want to ice skate on!

Nice, Jim. I like the reflection of the sunset colors in the ice.
40mph gust are nothing....as you very well know! Still hard for the camera stability.

Thanks Monika. I totally agree about the wind. I have been up there in much worse where I had to lean into the wind. And you see some people without cleats up there and they are literally being blown across the ice. Like I would not want to have been up there today, I bet the winds would have been up into the 60-70mph range.

Thanks Jameel! It's a fun lake that's not too hard to get to, just hard enough to make you feel like you worked for it.

That's what it's been like here, at home for the last couple of weeks. I would be perfectly happy to get some calm weather! Maybe when I get to Death Valley next week........🤞

Hopefully you do get calmer winds out in DV, as it's no fun there when it's windy.
