Iceland: tourism & prices dropping

I read an article the other day that talked about how tourism has dropped so much in Iceland that Keflavik (the airport) has laid off workers & that prices are dropping. One hotelier said he'd lowered prices 30%. It's a small country & the residents are used to large swings in their economy.....but those of you who have Iceland on their itinerary: it's looking better to go (if all the stupid Intagram tourists haven't ruined too much of it)

Thanks for that update Monika.

I had hoped to go this year, and I ended up not going. So this will be good for me then for next year if I do end up going. a 30% savings can be pretty huge. Of course that's for hotels and I didn't plan on staying in any hotels, I would get the camper van, but hopefully the discounts will be seen across all aspects of it.

And yeah... hopefully not too much damage was done by the Instagram driven people, as their reputation is pretty bad at this point.

great news. i'm booked to go for the first time from sep. 15th through 28th. airfare and car rentals are taken care of, still working out the itinerary.
