    Fall Understory

Well, in Evergreen Oregon we'll take any color wherever we can get it! Pretty thick stuff in this image. Bad place to drop a lens cap.

    Spin Cycle

Thanks Alan. It is a very cool campground there with piles of boulders all around. Kinda like a miniature Alabama Hills!

    Thursday’s Task

An unusual challenge for sure! From 2006-2020, my adventure companion was this 2006 GMC Canyon. It was perfect for me - 4x4, short wheelbase, and a 6 foot bed with camper shell that I could sleep in. Grand Canyon Talastima Canyon Hell's Canyon Paria Canyon (Infrared) Canyonlands Coal Mine...

    Burn Baby Burn

This is the 2250 megawatt coal fired power plant in Page Arizona. You made have seen it when you visited Antelope Canyon. It was big and nasty. It closed in 2019 and the 775 foot tall (236m) smokestacks came down in 2020. 665nm Infrared Converted Nikon DSLR.

    Waterfall Wednesday 9/16/2026

Here is Panther Creek Falls in Washington State, showing a beaver dam's amount of fallen trees at its base. Waterfalls in our part of the US are constantly changing with the passing of each season and each new storm.

    King Of Wings At Midnight

I like the foreground better in your update, but I think the sky is still too cyan - I'd add red to the sky.

You Had One Job to do ...

Here at the Blue Basin Lower Trail terminus in the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument in Oregon, there is this great spot where you can sit down and turn your back to the awesome amphitheater you just hiked out to see.

    Big Rock, Little Tree

Thanks Jameel. It's true rocks are bad IR reflectors. Gotta have foliage (at least some lichens or biocrust) to get decent response from color IR. And direct light helps color immensely!

    Fresh as a Daisy

Thanks Guys! I've been trying to find more scenes with high subject contrast as opposed to high lighting contrast. I am liking how these kinds of images convert to b+w.

I also love the composition here, and the feeling I get from the way the light reflects off the taller buildings! This image projects hope to me. Well done.

    Fresh as a Daisy

In Old English, people called daisies "day's eye" because the petals close at night and open with the morning sun. This wild flower was found along the Oregon Coast, I thought it looked the prettiest of all the examples I had to choose from to photograph.

    Big Rock, Little Tree

Thanks Jim. It's a very well known spot, maybe I could start making hats shaped like the rock and tree. I could then use the proceeds to finance future photographic endeavors! Thanks for the idea! Talley Ho!

Thanks Alan. Yeah, under that rock pile would be a great place to hide an alien!

    Big Rock, Little Tree

Here, again, is my favorite tree in Zion National Park. This Pinion Pine lives on the East Zion Plateau at around 6000 feet in elevation. Not only does the tree itself have a shapely figure, but it is also situated in an extremely photogenic location amidst the soaring sandstone walls. 665nm...
