We haven't been getting much lowland snow the last few years in western Washington, but woke up to ~5" at my house this morning. I managed to get out on my crutches in the backyard to capture a few of my favorite maple with my new Sony 24-105mm.

After seeing the nice color versions of these towers in the landscape forum I went back through my files to my own trip to Monument Valley. I didn't pay for a guide so all my shots are from the road.
After a wonderful week at a back-country ski lodge in the Selkirks (I'll do another post on that) I drove up along the Icefields Parkway for a few days of photography and skiing. It got down in the low teens at night, so I was glad to have two sleeping bags in my van.
Back in my 20s I spent...
Jameel's shot of Landscape Arch got me thinking about my own shots from down that way in the fall of 2016.

And here's the last in my series of B&W photos from 2017. This was taken at the end of October in Zion's Narrows. I figured the various textures would render nicely in B&W.
Any thoughts are welcome.
I had shared several shots of the eclipse in August just after it happened, but since then I've processed another version in B&W. It is a wider view so you can see Mercury in the lower left corner and it includes data from a longer exposure, allowing me to show more corona and more detail in the...
Both taken not far from my house in Lake Stevens a few years ago.
From Red Mt. (spent the night on the summit) looking north to Mt. Pugh and White Chuck.
From the summit of White Chuck.
A nice chunk of ice on Iceland's diamond beach. The scene was pretty monochrome to begin with, making B&W processing somewhat natural...
Any thoughts are welcome!
Day 3 of 7 posting B&W images
This is Aldeyjarfoss in Northern Iceland, a really cool waterfall that is at least a little off the beaten path (dirt road and some hiking). The result is some nice glacial green water flowing through a basalt amphitheater. This is my favorite type of image to...
I've had someone I can't refuse toss the black and white challenge my way. So I decided to process seven images I took in 2017 that I haven't shared before, and make that my B&W story for the year. Here is the first, from a sunrise in Banff at 3rd Vermilion Lake taken in January 2017.

My wife and I were up around the Mt. Baker ski area doing short easy hikes for a couple days just before they closed the Artist Point road. Views rivaling any in the national parks without the fees and regulations.

From my second trip to the PNW, Aug '09.
One morning the gang all went out to Ruby Beach to see what dawn would offer. Solid over cast and gloomy mood. I still loved the scenery and made a few pics anyway.
Many thanks to Jim for inviting me to join his newest venture. I'm looking forward to participating as much as I can here.
Here is a hidden gem I came across while hiking in the mountains of Glacier National Park, in Montana, earlier this summer. As photographed of a place as Glacier Park is...
In honor of my presentation on Long Exposure tonight, I thought I would share this B&W image that is a favorite from 2016.
I often refer to Long Exposures as images that reduce visual clutter, I often hear parts of an image looking at them. To look at an image of a firetruck, the sounds come...
Little Rock's train station. It was a couple hours after sundown, with a low cloud cover.
For a couple years now I've been trying to branch out, city/street scenes among my targets.
It was fairly windy, as the flag attests, and with the mercury vapor lights being prominent, I thought b&w was...
From March '10.
I had recently seen some shots with this technique and on a whim, I panned the camera vertically during the exposure. It was my last shot of the day and I only made one attempt. It came out a little abstract-y for my norm, but it grew on me and has become one of my favorites from...
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
