22 degrees

Last Friday I saw the clouds looking good down at the beach and was thinking it would make for some great B&W shooting since it was midday. When I got down there the clouds were radiating out from behind the pier and I ran down to start shooting again totally thinking B&W. Well the sun was just out of the frame, and while shooting I was only trying to block any lens flaring from the sun, it wasn't until I got home that I saw that I had also captured the phenomena known as a 22 degree halo.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

Wow - thats an amazing effect. The light in the clouds is incredible. Even the surfer seems impressed.

Any clue on how to look for what you captured with 20/20 hindsight?

Thanks Alan,

Maybe I could have seen it if I was looking closer, I was just so focused on capturing the cloud shape before it changed and also from blocking the sun which wasn't too much higher then the top of my frame. I think knowledge about it happening, and that awareness might make me more conscious of it next time.

Beautiful Jim, and love the surfer standing right there like he is admiring the view also. I love when there is a halo like that in the clouds.

Thanks Darcy. I am glad you like this. Shots like this only last for a moment as the surfers rarely stay for long in one place.
