4th of July Fireworks in Long Beach

I went down to Long Beach to watch the fireworks last night. I wanted to get the fireworks to go off next to the Queen Mary, it was a bit of guess work as I wasn't positive where from the area I was at as to where the fireworks would shoot off from. Here is 2 that I have processed so far.

These are both neat Jim, I really like that first one.
Thanks Ben!

I think #1 is stronger is stronger too, but I did want to do a couple of verticals to show the complete reflection of color in the water. I did mainly shot horizontal.

Nice. The ships and water really add to the fireworks.
Thanks Jim! I had seen similar shots to this and thought it looked cool from years past. The Queen Mary has a 4th of July Party each year, so last year I was actually on the Queen Mary shooting. It was interesting, but I decided then that I wanted a little further back view of it with the fireworks.

Great shot. It looks similar to mine only i fee like yours is more in focus. Maybe its just the lens i used or maybe it was me pressing the shutter.

Hey Omar!

It's awesome having you join us here, you are a great addition to our friendly community.

Thanks so much for your kind comments. Where did you focus at when you took your photos? I focused in the water a little before the Queen Mary. I also used a remote release to make sure I wasn't jiggling the camera. Please post some of your fireworks! I think the angle of it was better where you were shooting from then from where I was.

Hello Jim and everyone else that is on the thread. Here is my shot from the 4th, I was using a 24-70 and maxed at 70.

I'd love some feedback overall but i'm a little concerned that the Queen Mary is a bit out of focus? Is it just me? I did not use a remote but next time i'll make sure i bring it with me.

Any advice or feedback is welcome.

Thanks.

Good to see you here Omar, and nice image. I would need to see a full size to determine OOF but at web size it looks fine to me.

You could have posted this as a stand alone post.

Hey Omar, this looks pretty good. One thing I did on mine was use a layer mask to separate the water from the sky basically. And then in the sky I added more contrast to make the sky darker, more black to help the fireworks darken more. I didn't want to do that to the water as then it would start to lose detail in it.

Overall though, it looks really sweet. As Ben mentioned, Create your own Thread when you have time and post some of your fireworks shots in there. :)
