A beautiful, lonely resting place

Just outside of a western Nevada ghost town lies a tiny cemetery. On the slope of a hill, adjacent to an open pit mine is the final resting place of Michael and Annie O'Keefe. Their tombstone reads ... Michael O'Keefe-Native Co. Cork Ireland-Died April 1902 aged 39 yrs.- Annie O'Keefe-Native of Candelaria, Nev.-Died Jan. 1884-Aged 8 Mos. 11 days.

Looks like a peaceful place providing the mine isn't still active. Either Michael was a young father or Annie is his little sister given the dates. Nevada has a lot of ghost towns due to short lived viability of mineral resources.

It's always a bit touching to find these, to see the dates of their births and deaths, and wonder what happened, how their life was. I know I don't mean to think about it, but it's just natural it seems.

Nice job on capturing this. The clouds behind really radiate out nicely.

Thanks guys! I am drawn to cemeteries, especially in remote locations. The stories on the tombstones is all we got now.

The cross in the photo is very well "placed" and the colors around it are beautiful. Very nice, Michael.
Thank Peter, I did have to set my tripod height a bit lower to separate the edges of the cross from the hills in the background. Sometimes just a little different placement makes a big difference.
