A Bridge Too Thin

A Bridge Too Thin

In the heart of the Bisti Wilderness, a realm that seems to defy the very essence of reality, one encounters ethereal rock formations. These natural wonders perch delicately atop mud bases, as if frozen in a moment where time itself paused to marvel.

Prominent among these is the formation I called the "Bisti Bridge."

Its shale top, meticulously sculpted by the whims of the wind over tens of millions of years, emerges as a slender, gracefully curved plank. Both its ends are anchored in mud bases, which have been eroded with time by persistent snow and rain. Stretching an impressive 20 feet and weighing over 500lbs, this slender bridge of shale stands as a showpiece to nature's intricate dance between endurance and fragility.

How many more years will this natural wonder continue to defy gravity and the elements? A century? Perhaps even two? The exact span remains one of nature's mysteries. But of one thing I am sure: I am so lucky to see its splendor before the relentless march of time reclaims it.

Love the angle Oliver. And I agree that I like the processing. The B&W really gives it a timeless feel.

I am not sure I have seen this in Bisti before. I would have to go back through my images to see, but this one isn't ringing any bells.

Thanks, Jim.

The clouds were very nice on that day; I need to look up my trail maps, IIRC it was on the wing trails.
