A Brown Pelican Portrait

Pelicans were my first bird subjects to photograph. Easy to learn bird photography - no need for exotic lenses or skills. These were shot in 2006 with a Nikon D200. Between mid-Dec and mid-Jan, around San Diego, brown pelican's colors are their best. When I was there, I had the opportunity to meet John Shaw who was shooting with a D2X. He was super useful. Humble and a wonderful man. Took the time to teach me how to focus BIF.

Great pair of shots of these guys. I love the color show of their markings in the first image. Nice work with the BIF.

Both are nice in their own way - good portrait in the first and the stop action in the second.
