A little play on the words as this is the Milky Way from the Grand View Point in Canyonlands. I had to drive back to Colorado as I was in California to pick up the Grandkids to bring them to California for a week of vacation at Disneyland, etc. I knew I wanted to stop for one night to capture the Milky Way, but wasn't sure actually where until I was on the road driving.
I also complicated things in that I took the Toyota Corolla instead of my 4Runner. With gas prices so high, and the fact the trip was basically drive to Colorado, watch 2 nights of the Grandkids in their Dance Recital, and then drive back to California. I decided to drive the Corolla which gets 45mpg instead of the 4Runner which gets 20mpg on the freeway. Saving $250 in gas was appealing, knowing how much the grandkids would want to spend out in California. The problem was narrowing down my camera gear to fit in the Corolla.
So what I did, was I stuffed the Corolla with about half my gear, then at my daughters house I unloaded most of it except for my main cameras and a couple of tripods for the drive back out to California with the Grandkids. When I go back there next week, I am taking my 4Runner and Grandkids with the other half of my normal camera/traveling gear. When I get to my daughters house I will pack my truck back up with the gear I left there, and then truck will be back to it's normal load out as July is my backpacking, and wildflower time up in the Colorado mountains. And who knows maybe another trip up to the Wind River after Monika teasing me with more Wind RIver images.
Anyway, all of that to see I picked out Grand View Point in Canyonlands for the Milky Way.
This was captured with the Nikon Z6II Astro modded camera and 14mm Sigma f1.4.
