A Little Scouting

While up in Yosemite last weekend I did some scouting to find a new Milky Way location. I found this area that had the feel of a dome, but isn't just before Glacier Point.

This is a test shot with an iPhone 15 Pro Max image from early in the morning with the sun behind the Jeffrey Pine. That is the same angle I would need for the Milky Way to have it rise above the tree.

I left it darker like the phone captured it.

All comments are welcome,

Looks promising for a MW foreground. I like the silhouette theme here.
Thanks Alan. There are several really cool trees here, but I think this one was my favorite. So many possibilities with it I think. I am still downloading images, so I haven't seen how it looks with the Milky Way yet. Once I finally set up for the Milky Way, the framing is a little different as the angle needed to change a bit. But the tree still kept it's basic bending shape, so that was good.

@BlackRockArt come check this one out. :)

Jim, this is a great location, perfect for a night of Milkyway shot, I gotta try this. Thank you so much for sharing.

Nice shape to the tree. Maybe shoot from closer/lower to eliminate the uninteresting foreground.

Thanks Monika. This was just a quick shot placing the sun behind it so I could remember how it looked facing east. But I do actually like the ground because of the shadow from the tree. Though I see by just scrolling and cropping the bottom of it off, that is a good idea on your part.
