A not so black canyon

The Black Canyon of the Gunnison in CO.

An interesting place to explore and shoot. This is an image from a trip a few years ago in fall. There was some overnight sprinkles and created a nice contrast between the left and right sides of this canyon.

Almost a Yin and Yang contrast between the shade and where the sun hits. Looks like a lighting dynamic that would be difficult to process but you got a very workable result out of it.

Thanks Alan. It wasn’t a challenging image to process. Taken with a 5DsR which I miss after I lost it. For landscape images it produced great images at low to mid ISO.

Very nice Jameel. I like how you worked this.

The Black Canyon is a place I purposely avoided for years, because every photo I ever saw posted of it just looked so ugly and unappealing. So when I did finally go there maybe 8 or 9 years ago, my socks got blown off as to just how beautiful it is. Now I go there all the time.

It's a beautiful place, but not necessarily easy to make a meaningful image at. Most images look just like this one, though this is one of the nicer pictures I've seen of the place.

Thanks Jim. Was my first and only visit and I enjoyed every minute of it.
