That looks like a contrail at a lower level than is typical. This site is an excellent source of information on clouds. The different types of clouds: what they mean for weather (zmescience.com)

Nice sunset. Before I saw Dougs post, the contrail is what came to mind.

As best I could tell, this wasn't a contrail as it hung in the sky with other clouds way before sunset. As the sunset, other clouds dissipated and this one thinned. Of course, Doug could be right but it seemed more cloud like than contrail.

Amazing, but certainly not a contrail, they only occur at high-level. my example took me by surprise and I couldn't

get to high ground to do it justice
