A Storm Approaches

Another scene from yesterday morning showing an approaching storm front. This was a Pacific storm that passed through yesterday in a pattern more common during the winter months. It was a nice change from skies entirely devoid of clouds. This is looking west from Vancouver over the Columbia River Valley.

A 3 shot panorama shot using the 70mm lens on a Mavic 3 Pro drone. Click through for a much wider view.

Wow, the pano really shows this off well. And being up high in the drone, really helps remove any distracting ground elements. How high up were you?

Thanks Jim - I was at roughly 250' when I shot this. I was shooting from about 390' earlier but I dropped down to shoot Mt. St. Helens since the trees obscure more of the rooftops when I am lower. At 350-400' you get a view of the Columbia which isn't quite visible in this pano but is just beyond the trees on the far side of the fields. I actually shot a much wider sequence of shots but 4 or more panels makes an image that is too narrow for web viewing.

Nice job with the cloud exposure on this one - it's always a tricky thing. I like the mid-ground agricultural areas that nicely break things up. How high up do you go on something like this?

Thanks Kurt - I metered on the clouds and brought the ground levels up in post. This particular sequence was shot from about 250' above ground level and my house is at 220' above sea level so around 470' above the river and the fields (the Columbia is only a couple of feet above sea level here). All of the fields are reclaimed wetlands by virtue of sloughs and dikes.
