Just south of Monument Valley Tribal Park is this massive roadside monolith, sacred to the Navajo. This is one of those places where you don't have to go more than 10 feet from your car to get a good composition.

I have stopped and photographed this rock probably a dozen times. It's so awesome as you are driving you see this rising up against the skyline, you aren't to Monument Valley yet but you get that taste of it and I have to stop too.

I got lucky with the clouds this time, I always allow extra time for photography when planning a road trip because sometimes you find a good composition but have to wait for some distant clouds to move across the scene. This is the rare exception where the clouds were ready and waiting on me.
