August flowers

Wow Nick! You have such an awesome garden!

Thanks for numbering these, it makes it so much easier as a viewer.

My favorite is #6, I don't recall ever seeing a flower like that before. I really like that purple it has to it.

#4 is my next favorite as I really like that soft backlighting and the pink coloring in it.

Then comes #5 with that bee... it's hard to not like flower photos with bee's in them! :)

And then #1, there is something about those whites in it that really make it stand out.

All the others are great shots too, but those 4 really jumped out to me.

Wow - beautiful flowers and very nice work with the light and compositions.
Thanks Alan. Bright overcast days are I think generally recommended for flowers, to avoid bleaching the colours as far as I recall. But I like bright sunny days because of the play of light effects that I can sometimes get. I don't really understand about the colour issue. It seems to me that if I expose carefully there doesn't seem to be too much of a problem. But that might be dependent on also doing suitable post processing. Don't know.

btw, I just realised that I posted more than the recommended five images. I post on another forum where the limit is eight and it uses exactly the same BBCode conventions as your forum so I tend to cut and paste from one to the other. This time I forgot to delete three of the images. My apologies.

Thanks Jim. That is down to my wife. She is a very keen gardener.

A poppy of some sort I suppose. I would have to ask my wife about that, but unfortunately I can't just now. I am useless at naming flowers (or anything else for that matter).

An anemone I think.

I generally like my insects bigger in the frame, but then again it isn't the subject of the image, just an adornment to the subject.

Is it perhaps a hoverfly rather than a bee?

Those white anemones are rather pretty I think, and the sunlight fell very nicely on to that one.

All the others are great shots too, but those 4 really jumped out to me.
Thanks for taking the time on separate comments Jim. That is helpful and much appreciated.
