Autumn colours from a local wood

We had a storm last Sunday with winds gusting to 80mph stripping lots of leaves but many have survived in this local gorge. I will probably travel up to Perthshire in Scotland at the weekend. Perthshire is probably the best Autumn colour location in Britain until then this will have to do. Ken

Wow - the leaves look just as good on the ground as in the trees. I like all three images but the last one with the more open forest floor keeps my eyes wandering back up the screen for another look.

These are awesome Ken! That first one reminds me of scenes I have seen in paintings before. It's just perfect!

They're all so rich in color & detail, but the light on the fallen leaves on the forest floor is really special.

Thank you for the comments. The first 2 images do not have any sunshine although it was bright overcast with some directional light but very diffuse as it was filtered through high altitude clouds. The last image of the forest floor has some weak sunshine through a thin veil of high altitude clouds. I don't like full sunshine unless it is golden hour. Here is an image of the riverside with full sunshine and although I like it, I find that boosting flatter light produces a better image. The forest floor leaves here are mostly Beech and they do not rot whereas most other leaves turn into a horrible mush after a month or so. The beech leaves on the floor will look like this throughout the year. American beech trees are fairly similar to European although the leaf shape is slightly different. Ken
