Autumn in Virginia

Landscape for me. Both are interesting for their very different moods but the landscape orientation seems to convey the feeling of depth in the scene a little better for my feeble eyes.

Thanks Alan and I see what you mean. Perhaps it's the fact that the details in the trees on both left and right sides draws the eyes a bit to give a better sense of depth.

I made my decision prior to scrolling down and came up with the landscape version as well. I can't add any useful reasons beyond what the experts before me have stated.
Oh yes and the shot is really lovely and makes me want to wander off into the forest.

If I may ask: Where in Virginia is that lane?

I will be the odd one... :)

I prefer the vertical as I like the way it really funnels the eye down the path. The Landscspe version is too wide allowing too much room for my eyes to room. The one thing about the Landscape version that distracts my eyes, is the 2 or 3 damaged or barkless trees on the right side. Their being a different tone then the rest really grabs my eye. So for me, cropping them out would help, or just selecting them with a layer mask and darkening them and changing their color tone to match the rest of the trunks.

It's a really cool lane you found there Bob. I had hoped to get to Virgina actually this fall, but didn't. So I am just a bit jealous. :)
