Most of us know of the Bentonite Hills, they aren't too far out of Hanksville Utah. They are just past the Mars Research Center off of Cow Dung Road. This isn't exactly as I had visualized it, but still I got the main intent of looking down on the rings of some hills.
I mostly had the place to myself, there were 2 Sprinter camper vans there on the one side, so I scouted and set up some locations based on where they parked. I went and talked to the people in the vans, and they mentioned a couple of friends that would still be coming, but they were out photographing Long Dong Silver for sunset. So I figured one more van wouldn't make a big deal, and I adjusted my compositions for it.
Well, much to my surprise a whole caravan of Camper Vans came rolling down the Cow Dung Road. I stopped by the Camper van convention that was now being held, and the people said that oh yeah, they keep meeting other camper vans and they all group up together.... Now, their parking area spilled out into where I was going to set up my cameras for the Milky Way.
Fortunately, this camera, the Nikon Z8 with the Laowa Zero-D 10mm f2.8 I had set up quite a ways on the north side of the hill area on the edge of a cliff, so it couldn't see the vans. But my D850 I had setup there was just no other good composition to set it up at, so there will be vans in that timelapse. Fortunately they were all pretty good with controlling their lights, so that was a help.
