Always late to the party but at least I beat the new year! Most of the images shown here were taken from my backyard. A year ago, we moved to a lakefront home so I didn't have to venture too far to find subjects to shoot. I also rejoined Focal World after a long absence. I'm so glad to be back. Happy New Year everyone!
1) For this shot, I set up my tripod on my balcony deck. I set up the timelapse to take as many images as my battery would allow. I started capturing around 11pm and let it run till the battery died. In the moning, I stacked the images using Star Stax.
2) During winter, the bald eagles gather on open water on the Mississippi River just south of Red Wing, MN. It's about an hour and half drive for me but almost always yields some decent images. This one, the bird is eating on the run! I didn't even notice the fish in its mouth until I saw it on the computer!
3) A young eagle against a sunset sky.
4) An eery glow of sunrise pokes through the clouds. I used the cattails silhouette to create some interest.
5) This image is one of my favorites for this year. I was waiting out a loon who dove under water. It popped up right next to my boat and with a 600mm lens in hand, I got this close up as it turned to scratch itself.
6) We waited most of the season for the hummingbirds to find our feeder. It was late summer when they finally found it.
7) This image became the cover image of my annual calendar. It came about with experimentation with Photoshop filters and a layer mask to keep the boat sharp.
8) A foggy morning gave way to some breaks with a glow during sunrise.
9) Our home faces west on the lake and the storms typically roll in to us. I set up for this storm with the hope of getting some lightning strikes before the rain forced me indoors.
10) Late in the year, I rediscovered flying my drone. I love shooting panoramas with the drone. This is a 21 image (7 x 3) pano of sunrise over the lake.
