For the first time in many years no waterfalls and what looks a lot like street photography. Ken
#1 3rd January and my usual trip to the North Coast of Scotland. This was a better trip than usual as the tide was high and the waves were smashing in but rather confused instead of my always hoped for smooth big rollers. The sun was below the surrounding cliffs producing soft light on the sea arch and directly illuminating the clouds
#2 16th January snow is becoming increasingly unusual here so any opportunity sees me out, camera in hand, trying to make pretty pictures. This pair of Scots pines are only a short walk from home and make an appearance later. Processed as a high key image but it was really quite gloomy.
#3 Edith arrived in January and changed our lives but not anything like the disruption that she brought to our younger daughter and her partner. This is 15th May and a grab shot of my wife reading to Edith
#4 21st July and an unexpected trip to Verona to go to the Opera. We were gifted the flights and the Opera tickets and spent a week wandering around this charming Italian city. The weather was, to our Northern European bodies, scorching with shade temperatures in the high 90sF so lots of wandering around in the evening. I would have loved a sunset but it never happened. I hadn't brought a tripod and this was taken with my camera levelled on coins while propped on top of a wall.
#5 Another image from Verona and another grab shot. I had seen the golden glow of the water mist illuminated by the setting sun but hadn't noticed the little scene of the water with the diners that was just a stroke of luck. Lots of the cafes spray water into the air to cool the terraces and it produces the atmosphere in this shot.
#6 I had to persuade my wife that a day in Venice would be fun. Our last trip there was more than 20 years ago on a scorching hot day with our 2 young children. The time before that was at Easter with a 2yr old and my wife heavily pregnant. Venice at Easter is to be avoided, busy does not begin to describe it. In the end we both enjoyed the trip a walk to the railway station and just over an hour on the train right into Venice. Venice was refreshingly cooler than Verona, still in the 90s but the sea brought a freshness to the air. I have lots of the usual views but prefer this one from a little side canal with the 3 gondoliers especially the middle one with the phone.
#7 7th October and the same short walk from home. My phone had been alerting me about Aurora activity, the sky was clear so out with the tripod and a head torch. Not a lot of movement in the Aurora. The show 3 days later was much more active but the main activity didn't have as nice a foreground as this one.
#8 Cragside 27th October. I was visiting the North East to "talk" to a camera club about my approach to photography. I stopped at Cragside for a walk and an opportunity to get some images. I spent a lot of time photographing the many cascades and waterfalls on this small stream but this simple to get image was my favourite by far.
#9 28th October Loch Faskally, Perthshire, Scotland. I haven't posted this image before but have posted similar ones. Previously I had reduced the contrast as the images looked "Photoshopped" however this is very close to what it looked like as the sun broke through the cloud and mist. I was chatting to a group of wild swimmers who were telling me the colours were nice but the week before they were better then the sun broke through and we stood awestruck at the scene all thoughts of the previous weeks colours forgotten.
#10 9th December. St. Mary's lighthouse NE England cost. A short trip to try out my new lens, Tamron 28-200, plus a visit to IKEA. This year I am going to concentrate on seascapes. every visit is different, wave direction and height and state of the tide make a world of difference.
