They have a working Blacksmith at Knotts Berry Farm who makes all sorts of things. I think he was making a horseshoe here.

… Jim: I have been considering the addition of grain to B&W images. Took a photo of two people this week, a high resolution B&W, and almost deleted it. It was just cold. Then tried adding some grain, and old time inverse vignette, and the image became quite intriguing. Don’t understand it myself, but your image brought this to mind.

That's a great idea Iain, and something I have tried in the past. Maybe I should try it again.
