Burchart Gardens

I love the view of the blooms in the Sunken Garden - gorgeous colors. Not certain what the name of the tree in the Japanese Garden might be. I have seen Japanese Maples pruned for growth like that but I can't quite see good enough detail of the leaf shape to say that's what this tree might be. What detail I can see doesn't seem quite right for a Japanese maple. Really cool how twisted the branches are with this specimen.

What awesome views Larry! It's been almost 40 years ago that I went there, and I really enjoyed the cruise over and all about that area.

Thanks Alan for your comments, appreciated! ;)
I think it may be a Japanese Maple a closer look shows some wires and guides directing the growth patterns and might explain the strange configuration! :)

We spent a week in Birch Bay, WA for our 30th wedding anniversary vacation, 17 years ago. I surprised Kathleen with a trip to Burchart Gardens, a place she had on her wish list to visit. Her joyful expression and tears on seeing the entrance to the gardens was the best part of our week out there! :)

A really nice view of the sunken gardens. The mystery tree looks nice. It must look quite different and colorful come fall.
