Calendula

Calendula officinalis is also known as Pot Marigold and belongs to the daisy family. The bloom is apparently edible although I have never tried to eat them myself. They do have a nice looking flower and in this case a nice shaft of light coming through the trees with a late afternoon sun angle.

I was saying, wait isn't this a Marigold? :) I don't know any of the scientifiic names, so that's for including that. Very nicely captured.

Thanks Jim - the stems and leaves are quite different from a normal marigold but they are all related. I need to make a point of wandering out to our garden area more often with late day sunlight with the isolated sunlight peeking through the trees. I shot this just before the firecracker columbine I posted yesterday.

Nicely isolated. The yellows stand ou against the blacks well.
Thanks - I have usually avoided shooting in direct sunlight but late in the day with lots of shadows and spotty light seems to be an interesting time to shoot with light contrasts like this scene.
