Calf Creek Canyon in the Escalante

This image was made from a fabulous and short stretch of Utah state route 12 known as the Hogsback. The width of the top of the ridge is just wide enough for a two lane road. It goes way down on both sides. I'll drive back and forth along this road many times in a day as conditions change rapidly in the summer afternoons. In the canyon seen here is the trail to Lower Calf Creek Falls. This is a two frame vertical stitch with my Canon and the 17mm ts-e.

That's a great road, on top of the landscape. With this shot, those clouds are so "in your face" that nothing else matters...

I love that piece of road and stop to shoot every time I go through there. Never had a set of clouds like you have in this capture. Nice. Neat perspective on the storm cell.

Hi Jeffrey, I have often considered taking that drive, but always allow other priorities to interfere. I have done teh Cal Creek hike and did not know the canyon was visible from the road. This is a great shot.

Ben, if you hiked lower Calf Creek, then you were on that road, but may not have taken it up to Boulder, where this scene is near. Rt 12 from Boulder to Escalante is 28 miles, easily doable a few times throughout the day.

Right jeffrey, I have done 12 many times all the way to Torray, I thought you were speaking of the old mail road. I thought maybe it went up the west side of Calf Creek, 12 is on the east side.

Very cool shot, Jeffrey. I also love how the clouds mimic the landscape. Will have to check out that area when next in Utah!
