Canada Geese

Canada geese use our lake at a local park as a stop over site during their flight to winter areas. This year I have seen many more geese then usual for our local lake. I went over to the park today around noon and found a couple hundred geese. While I was there a flight of taking a few photo another flight dropped in with 200 or 300 more birds on the lake. There were 40 or 50 birds feeding on the grass in the park.

While I was setting on a bench in a grassy area of the park group of about 20 geese by the bench and payed very little attention to me. They were busy eating on the grasses, I guess storing up on every for the next leg of the flight south. As this guy walked right in front of me I whistled, he stopped eating and gave me this look! ;)

Lovely collection of geese.

We get tons of these guys during the winter months and apparently they can put a real dent in fields farmers are using for livestock forage. Do be careful where you walk when there are this many of them around. Their droppings can be quite slippery amongst other characteristics :)

That's a lot of Canadian Geese!

As Alan mentioned, I also would not want to be walking very close to where they are hanging out.
