Capitol Reef Trip

I just returned from a short week puttering around the Capitol Reef area, had not paid attention to the Fall color reports at all and just wanted to get away from work for a bit. I honestly thought I had missed peak color but I was pleasantly surprised as it was in full swing. Even after being here many times over the years my wife and I still ended up finding new hikes and areas we haven't been to yet. Lots of photos to process but that's aways a good thing. And if any of you happened to be driving by and saw a naked guy on top of Ferns Nipple, that may have been me haha.

I'm with Jeffrey - image #4 has some outstanding light and the fall leaves below are a perfect compliment to the softly lit terrain behind. #5 is pretty cool as well.

It's #4 for me, that background light is great.

Thanks guys, yeah #4 was at twilight, it made some really pretty soft light. I've never shot those badlands that late but I thinks it's a good sweet spot.

What a great job with these Jordan!

#4 is really cool for sure, but I also like #2 and 3. With #2, it strikes me that it could as well be a drone image, that ground out there is so crazy.

I have always been impressed with Fern's Nipple. It had me wishing I could have met Fern in real life. :) I believe I have photographed it before, but so far I haven't seen any naked people up on it. Did your wife join you, or was that a solo adventure?

Hey Jim, yeah I had my wife with me this year, she needed a break from the PhD life haha. And yeah, when I saw that tree I thought the same thing about being a drone image. I did take a bunch of drone shots out near that Mars Research Facility and got some cool images, some wild stuff out there ; )

That hike up to Fern's Nipple was something else though. Lots of elevation gain in a relatively short distance. Scrambling was fun though and the views at the top were something else. You could see clear out to Caineville.
