Caterpillar-hunter Beetle

This beetle was swimming in my pool. The price for taking him to safety was posing for macro photos. I think it was a good deal for both of us. I used a white plexiglass with an LCD panel underneath and a flash with a diffuser in the hot shoe.

Regrettably, I didn't look. To figure out the sex of a beetle, you must look at the ventral posterior abdomen. That area of the shell has segments. If there is minimal space between the segments it's female.
