Colchicum autumnale

[AlanLichty]

Colchicum autumnale looks enough like a crocus that it is called Autumn Crocus in spite of not being part of the crocus family at all. This plant is often called naked ladies or naked boys due to the fact that the blooms emerge well before the leaves appear. In spite of the fact that my wife planted these many years ago I am always surprised at seeing these blooms show up well after most flowers in our garden are long gone.

C&C always welcome.

How nice to have late blooming flowers Alan. These are lovely.

I like the colors which show off nicely in the soft light. Are these in your yard?

Thanks Trent - they are almost a shock (but a nice one) to see when everything else has finished their blooms.

Thanks Jameel - yes these are in our backyard garden. They have more subtle colors than the regular springtime crocus blooms.
