Color burst in the Adirondack Mountain Reserve

Took a hike into the AMR a week ago, where there was some good color along the Ausable River.

(Went there again this weekend with Dean, and I'm sure we'll see some good reports from him)

Anyhow, here are two scenes I enjoyed:



The first for a burst of yellow.


The second, after 11 hours of wandering along the river, as it was getting dark, a very long exposure to pull the reds and water out of the darkness. (Yes, a breeze had kicked up with the cool evening, so the leaves on the trees were bouncing during the exposure -- not that I could see them.)

Beautiful fall images. Hard to beat water and fall leaves.

Love the burst of yellow - esp. since it's isolated in the green to add depth. The seriously smooth waters in the second one are nice alongside the leaves. Not much you can do with waving branches when the light gets low in the woods.

11 hours of hiking? Wow.

Hey Bart,

Very cool shots here. I like them both, but the scene I would like best? Cropping #2 eliminating the top part of the shot with the yellow leaves. The red leaves on the gray rocks, and meandering water is so cool, I think the bottom 2/3rds of the image is super strong. The yellow leaves are moving a bit which you explained, and that's not bad. But even if they were sharp, I think the image would be stronger without them. I would crop to be more clear, just above were the water is cascading down, just showing the bottom yellow leaves of the tree back there.

Anyway... just an idea.

Love the first more, but i find the FG too busy, i would consider cropping the big stone off bottom, leaving the leading lines,
the second i would go with Jim's suggestion.

Thanks for the comments. I truly appreciate them. You know how it is when you're kind of "confined" to one area, you can loose your objectivity. So getting suggestions like yours Him and Andrey are much appreciated. I'll work up both. I'm finding #2 to be too "crunchy", my full scene isn't like that -- might be my adjustment for posting, which I'll work on.

I'm liking them both, Bart, favouring the first one. Very interesting that once you start thinking about cropping you can see many more compositions within compositions. Looks to have been a niceish fall up your way - better than when I visited a few years back and whadaya mean 11 houirs???? For you that sounds a lightish day!
