lake apopka wildlife drive. which should be called lake apopka wildlife traffic jam. i sat for over 2 hours in a line of cars that inched their way through the drive. saw lots of birds, but most of them were a ways off away from the line of vehicles snaking through the tiny road.

You did get a really nice portrait of this bird in spite of the traffic.

One upside to the slow drive is more time to shoot what you do get to see. There is a wildlife drive just north of Vancouver that can be slow but nothing like what you are describing.

thanks alan. unfortunately, i didn't get much on the drive. i was getting stuck in spots where there wasn't much to see. by the time i'd get up to the wildlife it would be further away from the road. i caught a few birds, but not as many as the last time i was there. the boat ride down the st. johns had better wildlife photography opportunities.

Glad you got this! That's a pretty cool looking bird.

I don't do birds much, but I did stop by a lake in a wildlife preserve one time, and where I was at on the road, I saw all of the birds on the opposite side of the lake. So I drove slowly around to the other side to get closer to photograph them, and you can guess what happened.... yep... they had swam over to the side where I was originally at...

thanks jim. i prefer to shoot landscapes, but all we have are housing developments and birds. i swear the birds know we're trying to photograph them and they either swim or fly away or turn around and take a crap.
