Cormorants Nesting

This image shows some of the numerous cormorant nests in the same tree that the blue heron were nesting in. The heron made much larger nest and were generally lower in the tree on larger branches.

Do they reuse each other's nests or was it a complete rebuild depending on which species lays claim to the tree? Neat tree for your photo pleasures in either case.

Hi Alan; this image does not show the whole tree the blue heron build large nest in the bigger lower branches and the cormorants populate the smaller upper. I thought I captured the whole tree in a few images, but I can not find the files.

Thanks for the comments Jim. There is a tree in Denver City Park called the bird tree that hosts several nests for snowy egrets and cormorants, and an occasional night heron. Over a few years the cormorants take over most of the best nesting sites and move out the egrets.
