Experimental Timelapse

With my new R5, I have started to re-experiment with time-lapses. This was shot a couple weeks ago, and originally put together as a 4K video. I then reprocessed it using LRTimelapse software, and saved it as an HD video. The fun part was that it is an experiment to try for an unattended video, using just the R5, running in P mode with auto ISO, so that all the exposure changes are done automatically. I have since read that this approach is not ideal, as it is more prone to introduce flickering, and also tends to use shorter exposures that do not yield as smooth results as one would like. Also, in this case, I needed a filter to equalize the sky better with the foreground. But as a learning experience I am happy with the results. It also has much smoother rewsults than my previous attempt shot a number of years ago in RMNP, although that was a more interesting subject for sure and much longer too.T his ended up being just 9 seconds, made with a 5 second interval time.

If there is a better way to link this here, please advise...

Hey Mike, it’s great to see someone else doing Timelapse! I will check out what you did in a bit.

Real quick though, the best way to do video is to post them on YouTube. Then when you paste the link from YouTube in your post, it actually gets embedded into the post and you can see the video, not just a link to click on.

Great to see you doing timelapse. I am also doing this. I have tried in camera TL and just using in camera time interval to shoot raws which I later assembles into a time lapse using Moviva. I am about done doing raws, way to much time and effort not to mention storage space. I filled up a 64GB card today doing a sunrise and am unhappy with the results. You may have hit on something, I was using auto iso and got some flickering.

I have been using the default 3 second interval with some success. Or at least it seems smoothest. We need to share recipes.

Hey Mike, I finally got a chance to look at this. It looks really nice! The clouds are flowing really well.

So what was your gap between images?
